Another 240 Odometer ?
Started the next project on fixing up this 240, 1991 model. The odometer was not working when I got it. Took it appart and yep broke gear. Ordered and installed a new gear. Re-installed in dash and odometer still does not work. Took it appart and rechecked for debris. Reinstalled and still does not work. I did notice that when I removed the odometer from the dash the motor was warm.
My question: How to I test the odometer motor without reinstalling it and driving the car? I would like to know if the motor is working or not. Also any other ideas to what could be wrong?

So I'm not one with much patience. I'll tell ya what I did not diagnose/fix the problem though I don't recommend it...
Pulled the cluster and checked it again. For kicks and grins I retin'd the three wire connector pc board. Add a little di-electric grease. Reinstalled. Jacked car up and place on 6 ton jack stands. Pulled the connector off the pickup on the pumpkin. Cleaned and added di-electric grease. Re-installed. Cranked the car and started driving. (sorta) When 1.5 miles at 25MPH and never left the garage.
Problem fixed I think. It was late so I plan on putting the dash back together tonight and test driving it.
Since I did the retin and clean of pickup at the same time I am not sure which fixed it. I noticed that when connecting to the back of the cluster the connector seemed loose. After retin it is tight. After reading about all the corroded electrical issues on the 240's I have been putting di-electric grease on every electrical connector I take apart. Also I already re-did the fuse box.
