B230 swap into 84 242 - A Few Questions
Hi all.
I currently drive a 1984 242dl, b23 standard, and I recently bought a 1989 244dl parts car.
I'm going to start a full interior swap as my 242's dash is in pretty sad shape, and I like
the color of the 244s interior much better. Not to mention heated seats
Anyways, the b23 in my old 242 has seen better days, and is starting to get pretty tired.
How much would go into dropping the b230 in place of the b23?
The b230 is mated to an automatic gearbox right now, would the flywheel off my 84 fit?
Is the bellhousing compatible? Are there any other issues I might face?
Thanks in advance!

AFAIK, the blocks are bolt compatible. lets see, yeah, both 84 and 89 automatics used the same flange to mount the flexiplate, that means the bolt holes are the same, so yeah, your 84 B23F flywheel should bolt up to the 89 B230F engine, and as far as I know your existing manifolds and EFI and stuff should bolt up, too. switching to the 1989 LH 2.4 and EZK ignition might be challenging, not sure if your flywheel has the timing marks that LH2.4 requires for its crank position sensor.
