92 940 turbo swap to 80 242 GT
Hey all, Im just looking for some info on possible swaps for my 242 GT. I love the car but I wish it had a bit more get up and go. Here are a few questions I was wondering about.
1. Is this swap even possible? (Ive read on older 740 240 swaps)
2. Will a 92 b23ft fit onto my M46 tranny? (planning on leaving the b23ft stock for now)
3. Fuel system? Fuel pumps? 940 fuel system on 242 gas tank?
4. Motor mounts?
Just looking for any suggestions, maybe im dreaming here haha. I found a 940 turbo nearby and he wants it gone.
Thanks!
Keith

you will need to do a block mounted distributor instead of the cam one on the 940s.
the engine will mount into the car with the 240 motor mounts.
trans will bolt on no problems either.
Fuel system... I am pretty sure all you will need to do is change the pumps to the turbo models and you're done (assuming you have a complete 940 engine with injectors etc..).
Then the exhaust will need to be changed. simple actually. some people even sell premade ones for cheap.
You will also need to mount the intercooler and pipes.
The hardest part in this is going to be the wiring. going to need the harness for a lh2.4 car to work with the computers from the 940.
It has been done. It just takes time to do it.
Edit... another option is to put the turbo on the b21 in the car. there is a write up on how to turbo a na car.

for your fuel pumps, you could use, with little jury rigging, the fuel pump from an 850 turbo, which goes in the gas tank, then remove/bypass the under-car pump entirely, just put a turbo-sized fuel filter there.
the 850 T5's have similar fuel consumption to the B230FT, around 18MPG in town, they can deliver way more gas than that under high boost, and the fuel injection operating pressures are in the same range. in fact, they used these same pumps on some 94/95 940 T's.
