What would cause the Battery light to be on after the car was off and key removed with igntion fully off? The problem started when the alternator went bad. The light would be on with the car off but not with it on. We replaced the alt. then the car kept stalling and it apparently has a short somewhere. We have tried differnt batteries but to no avail. So what would short to cause the battery light to stay on after the car is off?

Any info would be greatly welcomed

Bad wiring harness will cause that to happen.
The engine harnesses are very bad on these cars.

You could very well need one.
I have seen then cause that problem before.

Try running a new wire from the grey plug at the firewall to the Alt. and see if it fixes it.

 

power to the light is turned off when you turn off the ign switch. When you turn key on power goes to light and is grounded at the alternator. When car is started and alt is charging there is 12v on both wires (ign switch and alt) running to light (no ground) and the light goes out.
