Default Battery light after changing alternator

I wasnt able to quite follow Bubba and Dan's answer to a similar problem.. I thought We hooked wires up as they were on the old alt..... They are remans from Advanced auto... from your previous answers, I feel that the problem lies in the small red wire or spade terminal.. but couldn't follow exactly what the fix was.. Bubba??... Dan??... BlueGoose??

I am as confused about that thread as you are.
First check your ground from the alternator to engine block. What's the voltage on the small terminal(where the little red wire goes)engine not running? What's the voltage small terminal engine running? What's the voltage large terminal engine running?
Since your getting your alternators from Advance, your going to get plenty of practice swapping them out.
What year/model of car do you have?

Default Thanks Turbo

I have a '92 240 wagon, 205,000 miles, I'm the 2nd owner, got it at 176,000 miles... when i changed alternator a couple of months ago, the old one said Volvo on it... it was either the original w/202,000 miles on it , or they had the original rebuilt.... My friend switched a wire(not sure which) to a different post, battery light stays off, alt. is charging, been driving it for a few days, 2 nights with highbeams, fan, and stereo on, no problems... should I still check voltage?? Chains (AutoZone, Advanced) will check, but they check at the battery.... Speaking of which, where should I be buying alts.?? Groton?? Thanks again for your help!! Brian
