Default Battery light came on; speedometer, thermostat, and fuel gauge stopped working.

I've got a 1993 240 wagon. Yesterday the red battery light came on, and at the same time the speedometer, thermostat, and fuel gauge stopped working on the dash. Am I correct that this means I have an alternator problem? (I'm new at this.)

Thanks!

Does the engine still run. What is the battery voltage. Is the alternator belt broken.

you 'may' have an alternator problem... but it needs to be tested. put a voltmeter across the battery terminals at idle and see what it reads. should be around 13.8 volts. if you don't have a meter take it to an autozone store and they will test it for you for free...
