Default Battery light question

My battery light stays on even when the key is removed from the ignition switch..Can someone please tell me what could cause this?
Car is a 88 244 with a new alternator that tested out in good working condition

Well, the simplest answer would be thatsomeone miswired the terminals on the alternator. If no one has messed w/ the alternator in some time, I suppose there could be an issue with the ignition switch.

Sounds like Swift is right on here. If you just replaced the alternator and the light was not on before the replacement then someone hooked it up wrong.

I disconnected the altenator and the light goes off..I hooked it up the way I took the old one off..one red wire to the plus output..one exciter wire and one ground wire..did the po have the altenator hooked up incorrectly?
