Default Best way to protect my dash

Newbie here, so please excuse all the posts. My 240 dash is in terrific shape and I would like it to stay that way.

I have noticed that IPD, and others offer both soft and hard covers for the dash. Anyone ever use these and care to share pros/cons?

Do they really work? Or does heat build up under them and still cause damage?

I have a soft fabric type cover for my dash. It looks great but the whole reason i bought it was because my dash looks like **** so i dont know about protection. But hey all that matters is that it looks good anyways right.

I put a rug-type dash cover on 22 years ago. It was custom made for the 240. The dash is still like new, so apparently it works.
