Default Brakes failed, thought I was gonna die. Had kid in the car. Help please

Well I replaced my brake pads and rotors on the front, and coming back from the movies tonight I felt like I had no brakes right before I almost rear ended someone. I drove the last 2 miles home at about 10 miles per hour with the e-brake. I took a flash light to my wheel and realized all the padding is gone on both sides.
The calipers compressed fine when I installed them.So what gives?
Any help here what else I should look for?

You need to clarify this a little. When you said "all the padding is gone" do you mean that the brake pads are missing from the calipers. Are ALL the pads gone ? Did you pull the wheels and see if the pads have separated from the backing plate? Also are all of the retaining clips still in place or are the missing too? Did you check to see if you have brake fluid? Are the calipers leaking brake fluid. What did the brake peddle feel like when you stepped on the brakes. If the brakes worked well before you did the pad change then it appears that you did not do something correctly when you replaced the pads.

If I had to guess, You mean you've actually lost the brake pads. That's really twisting my noodle.

A photo would help.

No clue how I pulled this up. Last thing I knew I was searching through "New Posts". I'm so confused.
