Default Broke a part, but what is it?

Broke the small part of the above. There is a hose coming from the intake manifold that goes to this thing and there are 2 more larger hoses attached to it. I broke the small tube. Went to the parts store and they didn't know what it is.
Any idea?

local parts stores are only suitable for buying oil, antifreeze, light bulbs, and wipers.

that looks like the flame trap holder off the top of the Oil Seperator box. thats part of the crankcase ventilation on the volvo engines....
the flame trap is actually a little ceramic filter disk thats inside that broken holder, and should be inspected/cleaned with every oil change.

probably part C in this drawing, with that filthy hose being part A. E is the oil seperator box. there's a couple configurations, this is just one... what year/model car is this? folks like ipdusa.com and fcpeuro.com have replacement parts for all of them, you just have to be sure you confirm the year/model.

that hose end looks particularly nasty inside, like this car hasn't seen frequent enough oil changes. 4.5 quarts of quality brand 10w30 dino oil every 5000 miles is my recommendation, along with a new Mann or Mahle filter with each oil change.

k, yeah, go to www.ipdusa.com, put in 1989 volvo 240 lh2.4 (first year for that, 88's were 2.2), and select 'engine, pcv crankcase ventilation, and you should land on this page.

https://www.ipdusa.com/catalog.asp?C...gorycrumbs=986

if you really want to dig in, I'd remove the intake manifold (get a new gasket for it), remove the oil sep box, and clean it with kerosene or paint thinner, and inspect it, if its not cracked, reinstall it with a new o-ring...

but basically, you wanna compare all the plumbing you have with what they offer, and pick your price point, this is the offical Volvo kit.
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/6161...ne-volvo-1707v
and the top hose, https://www.ipdusa.com/products/6160...-volvo-3507245

or this is the cheap kit,
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/5317...arket-3501707k
and cheap top hose https://www.ipdusa.com/products/6159...-vr161-3507245

and here's the whole nine yards, including a new oil seperator box, which is the thing on the side of the engine under the intake manifold.

Thanks Pierce, ordering some of those things above. Since I'm ordering it, I do need centre driveshaft bearing. For a 245 1989, do you know if it's 2" or 1.75"?
I'm also looking at sway bar bushing which I think my sway bar is 0.9" or 23mm type.

Might take your advice over the holidays to clean the oil sep box, looks doable from home.

if yoou remove the manfiold for better access, leave the throttle body on the manifold, just unbolt it from the head and move it back/clear enough for access. otherwise you have to reach around the idle air controller on the bottom of the manifold and its really tight., as I said, there's an oring between the block and oil sep box you'll want to replace. if you muck about with the IAC, it may end up needing new hoses, the old ones are 30 years old at this point.

I believe your center bearing is volvo part 183265, 45x75x16mm
the dust cover on the engine side is 678995, the rubber bellows on the back side is 3549771 (note says OD 145mm)
and the bearing carrier is 1221635

diagram the first (and factory/dealer parts)
https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/s...roduct=1112369

diagram the 2nd,
https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/s...roduct=1128184

you can undoubtably find these at places like fcpeuro and ipdusa for cheaper and/or aftermarket but I'd avoid most of the cheaper aftermarket stuff, it just doesn't last.

Hello Pierce, thanks to all your help..I've order the rubber mount and bearings from IPD but it's the SKF ones and the rubber mount are also the more expensive one which I hope is good quality. I took the chance of order the 2" not 1.75". Hopefully during the year end break I get get under it and tackle it myself.

I've order a new flame trap and have will try to remove the oil sep and clean that out too.

I've also order ball joint, sway bar link bushes and sway bar bushes as those need doing.

Next thing to order in are the rear shocks as the backside feels very soft when you push it down.

WIll be busy during the xmas break. Thanks and I will shout out if I am stuck somewhere again.

It's amazing how much guys like you have saved me. Mechanics here in NZ are super expensive and very ambiguous with charges and labour.

Thank you.
