Bucking, Jumping, Stalling Out 86 240 Dl
Help!!!!! I really like this wagon, but if I don't figure out this problem, I may have to something drastic, like kill it!
Ok, here are the symptoms and the conditons under which they happen.
After the car hits a half a tank, it starts to buck, and jump, and acts like it is out of fuel, but thereare still 7 gallons of fuel left. I have checked it several times, always the same amount of fuel each time.
Now it is starting to do it with the tank full.
At the present time this vehicle is down due to a bad alternator, I found a broken wire down on the main harness that I am going to repair. But I am curious if that wire may have been the culprit causing the previous condition.

hmm., well if indeed you are one who loves this Volvo, you will repair/replae the alternator. as far as i have known/know this 240 series has a major fuel induction issue. replace/upgrade the main and in-tank fuel pumps for this 200 series. the 'upgrade partition of my suggestion is from www.ipd.com, they offer an upgrade due to the fact that the pedegree of 200 series is prone to fuel pump/relay failures. let us know how it goes.

FYI, this may not be the issue, but nevertheless if you get these items renewed, you will certainly not have to worry about these issues for a while...other issues could be Air Mass Meter, fuel pump relay, fuel filter. regarding the alternator issue, if the alternator is the original, that's pretty darned old. literally. not sure what the issue was via info you gave but if you are going to, replace alternator and perhaps wiring harness for battery. I don;t know your budget, check around your wiring harness too. a tip; do the service your self.[sm=alcoholic.gif]

When I got this car, it was not running at all, and had sat for over a year. I put a new mass air sensor, the relay, and the ecm. It ran alright for a while, untill recently at least.
I guess I will have to bite the bullet and drop the tank on the old girl.
Could you please send that link for the intank fuel pump once more?
Thanks Again

www.ipdusa.com, oops.
ipd offers the upgrade kit, which is an excellant option.
try www.fcpgroton.com for stock parts too.
definitely cheaper than going to the dealership. depending.
