Default Buying a 1991 240

Hi, I'm new to the Forum and considering buying a 1991 240 with 330km on it (in Toronto, Ontario are). AC appears not to work but otherwise it's in very good shape. Before I buy, any warnings? Thoughts? Seems like AC repair may be as much as the cost of the car!! But she's a beauty.

Thanks.

AC is needed in Canada?

IPD has a web page And YouTube video on common 240 issues.

If you do your own work budget about $750 a year for maintenance. If you use a shop...be prepared to open your wallet a bit more.

check the car for rust that is the main item. otherwise if there is any service history that would help. otherwise usual stuff.. check for leaks/condition of fluids etc. that should tell you a lot.
as for a/c, probably not a necessary in the north.

good luck!

Check the condenser for the AC
it will look like a large silver can with the Low side AC port on it

it also has a wire going to it, connected to the pressure sensor. Turn the car on, turn on the AC like you normally would then jump that connector with a paperclip or like metal object. If the AC clicks on you are good to go, just top it off with refrigerant. If it does not, then it will be a bit of work to get sorted.

Jump it for only a minute or so, if it clicks on unplug that jumper one (We are checking the magnetic clutch on the fringe of the AC compressor)

that silver can is the 'receiver/dryer', not the condenser. the condenser is sandwiched with the radiator.

100% correct ^

Number 1 is the Receiver
Number 2 is the Pressure Sensor
