Camshaft remove/reinstall in a '92 240
Hi,
I want to remove the camshaft and camfollowers in my 240 to replace the rubber cushions that go between the followers and valve stems. I have a Bentley manual and understand the instructions but I need to know something else.
Is it possible to replace the front camshaft oil seal without removing the inner timing belt cover?
If I have to remove the inner timing belt cover, can I get it off by just removing the belt tensioner or do I have to remove the crankshaft pulley, dampener, lower outer cover, crankshaft and intermediate shaft sprockets, etc. as well?
The reason I want to replace the cushions is because of annoying valve train tapping that remains even after a valve lash adjustment. I'd also like to inspect the followers as well. I don't think the rubber cushions (seals?) have ever been replaced. There's 166,000 miles on the car.
Thanks,
Mark
