Carburation for my '89 2.3L 740 gl?
Is there a stock intake manifold(or aftermarket) for this little motor that uses a carburator? I want to ditch my stock throttle body intake. Im mounting this motor and tranny into a 1939 plymouth roadster, and id just prefer the carburated look.
Plus, im a little worried about this electronically. Supposedly this wagon didnt have a computer controlling the engine. I assume it wont be that hard to get running with a new wiring harness?

a 1989 740 has Bosch LH2.4 electronic fuel injection. the ignition is also electronic, but has its own ECU, the two ECU's communicate over a couple wires. I'm not sure if the ignition ECU will function without the injection ECU connected.
if you like the looks of carburetors, you could just mount one on top of the engine cosmetically... there's no way you'll get anywhere near the power and drivability using a carb on a B230F engine unless you really flood it and run it rich, then your gas mileage will suck.

Darn, I was hoping i could use an earlier intake and run a carb. Well its not like running fuel injection is a bad thing. This was from my great running wagon that ended up totalled, so i figured why not use it. In a much lighter frame and chassis its sure to have more power and fuel economy now.
I chose this little volvo engine, trans and rear because of how reliable the wagon had always been. Plus i just like saving part of my old car and blending it with this roadster body.

volvo never used carbs on the B230 motors. they were one of the first companies to adopt fuel injection back in the 70s. the earliest few years of the 240s (1975-1980 or so), the B21A engines were single side draft carbs. AFAIK, these were never sold in the US. there might even have been B23A carb versions.
the B23A manifold *might* fit a B230 block, I dunno. but finding one, hah!
if you found a B23A, I'd use that as-is. IIRC< it was a stronger engine, the B230F was a low friction version and had smaller bearings, and less reinforced pistons or something.
