Default Changing brake pads

I have an 84 240 turbo wagon. It is my first Volvo. I need to change the brake pads. I was wondering if there is anything particular about doing this? Anything special I need to know etc...

Nope...pretty straight forward. My advice is to always do one wheel at a time. That way you have the opposite side to use as reference. Also, Volvo liked to mix up brands of calipers which will affect the type of brake pads purchased. Some were ATE, some Girling...best to pull a wheel and determine that before buying the pads.

If you're replacing rotors be prepared for an interrogation by your parts guy! On my 740 there was 2 different venting options and 3 different rotor diameters. Just goes to show you how little parts guys actually know...I usually go in knowing more about what I'm looking for than the person behind the counter. Owning a european car is like owning a ford...every part has 20 different options for size/style.

I would recommend to have a big hammer available if you are replacing the rotors. I had to beat the crap out of mine to get them off.
