Ive got a 1983 245 that has a clunky metal to metal sound when I go over bumps. Sounds like from the driver side suspension. I’m pretty sure the sound came after I replaced front end parts (inner and outer tie rod, ball joint, wheel bearings). I properly greased everything and checked for tightness as well. I’m going to retorque everything again and degrease the ball joints. Someone said it could be gland nut and I finally got around to taking a look and this is what I found-welds on the threads. I’m guessing this could be the culprit? I had an alignment done after front end parts were replaced if that also is helpful information.
Finally had some time to take a look and maybe have 3 culprits:
Control arm bushing: looks old and slightly cracked
stablizer links: I couldn’t find specific torque valules in the manuals for this but how much should this be tightened? I feel like the stabilizer bar shouldn’t be angled like this.
sway bar bushing: Driver side seems to have a gap in the bushing.
I also replaced most of the front end components two years ago (bushings, rack/pinion), ball joint, tir rod ends (inner and outer) so it could be something I did wrong.
