no start after changing timing belt
I have a 1985 240DL which I recently changed the tensioner and timing belt on due to it having slipped of to a faulty tensioner. It is now cranking but not turning over. When I did the timing belt I made sure it was on tdc, and the marks line up. The cam dowel pin did not shear off, I have spark a #1 plug, I have a new fuel pump relay, the is gas going thru because I can smell it and the end of the spark plug is damp when taken out. The 25 amp fuse is good, there is voltage there. I have double checked for loose plugs or hoses all good there. There was mention of timing being 180 off, unsure what that meant but messed around with rotating the crank with the belt off in one revolution and putting everything together but had no luck. Any suggestions would be great.
How are you determining TDC? Are you going by the timing marks on the harmonic balancer? I have read of times where the rubber on the harmonic balancer delaminated from the hub causing the outer part of the balancer to slip. When this happens the timing marks will be off and not useful in determining TDC.
Did the engine run prior you replacing the timing belt?

Act1292, it was runing just the day before. I also determined tdc from the ridge and u shaped notch on washer. Also did the #1 sparkplug removal, insert screwdriver and crank to find high point.
Pop the top off of the distributor and have a buddy crank the engine - does the rotor spin? Open the oil filler cap and peek at the cam while your buddy cranks the engine. Does the cam spin? If both these spin then I think it's back to re-doing the timing marks.
Also, don't use the marks painted on the new timing belt. Some aftermarket ones have been known to be incorrect.
