Default Cold start issue with my 240

Hi everyone, I'm a new member here
We have had our 240 wagon since new back in 1992, it recently turned the 200,000 mark and still going strong.
Been having a cold idle issue for some time now and has kinda stumped our mechanic. I said keep the car till you figure it out which was fine with him.
I thought I would give this forum a try and hope someone else has had something similar.
Cold start up no problem
Five minutes into start up idle will jump up for 10 to fifteen seconds then drop to normal and the procedure will start again until motor is at operating temp.
If I turn engine off when the idle jumps up and try to start it up it will stumble and die, then it is difficult to start. Once it starts it chugs and coughs out black smoke then all is fine and off I go.
Help please!
