the W126 S class benzes are a whole odder thing. My w124 E class cars are simpler cars than a S class.

If you're hooked on V8 juice, MB made a 400E/E420 (model 124) in 1992-1995, with a newer/better 4.2L V8 than the one in the 1986-1991 420SE/SEL (model 126). they also made a 500E known as 'the hammer', but they are rare.

Quite often people thing they need a new compressor when in fact they just need to reshim the clutch. So if you find the leak, my coaching would be to 1) replace that part along with the various o-rings, orifice valve and the receiver/dryer 2) check the AC clutch gap and reshim if way out of spec (I think the spec is .3-.4mm and it goes wonky when it at .8mm or more ) 3) have a shop due the recharge. They can vacuum out the old and fill with a proper oil/freon mix. I assume this is after having a proper dye test done. Once done, you are set for a while and can work on the Speedo (I've done the gears on the 850 already). Besides, you can probably walk over to FCP's new place in Milford right?
Yes, you are absofriggenlutely right. And I have, many times. One sweet thing to have a short drive from home. I'll fix it for sure, one if I sell it I'll double the money I can get for it if I detail/fix the small weird things, window binding, A/C, piece of door trim, etc. and two if I keep it, well it'll just work right.

I'm toying with getting a Merc just to have. I've got two wagons running now, my XC70 is in show room condition, but I know it's going to cost to maintain, if the trans or the engine don't go... we'll see. I want to not like it, being a fordvo, but...it puts a smile on my face. I'd have been better off with a plain post '02 V70, but it is what it is. Thanks for the tips.

Pierce I checked on the MPGs ratings on those V8s. It's about as good as my old '76 era mopar trucks. So, it'll be a newer mid '90s I'd quest for I think. I'm hemming and hawing over the 21 mpg average on my XC, so I don't think 15 mpgs on the V8 mercs is for me. As much as they have "cool factor" wallet factor will win out.
