Couple questions
A good friend of ours (single mom, two teenagers) found a 1992 Volvo 240 DL that has been sitting for awhile that she would like me to fix up for her sons who will start driving in about 2 years. I looked over the car and it is in fair shape, but obviously I would go over it top to bottom to make sure it is completely safe for a new driver. Most of the issues I see with it are cosmetic, however the major ones the owner spoke about are the brake lights stopped working so he spliced in a pair of trailer lights and mounted them with double sided tape. He also said the car starts, runs, and drives, but after a while it will either idle rough or outright stall and take a bit to start again. I'm thinking everything from fuel pump, fuel relay, engine management fuse, Crank position sensor, etc. I have 30+ years of backyard wrenching and have worked on Volvo's before (kept an 850 going for 300,000 miles, an XC-70 for over 200,000 miles and currently have an S70 with almost 200K on it.
Ok, that's the back story. My two questions are: 1. How do I identify exactly which series engine and fuel injection version this car has, and where is a good place to buy 240 parts? I usually use IPD, FCP Euro and autohaus AZ.
Thanks

You should be able to find just about everything you want to know about the car with the VIN, try this website:

Just make sure you're looking at the 17 digit decoder.
As for parts you already listed some of the go to distributors, I've also heard good things about VP Autoparts but have never ordered anything from them.
