cruise control donor car!!!
hey guys i have a 1992 240 wagon and i want to add a cruise control. I found some online and i got to thinkin why not just get one out of a junkyard. i was wondering if anyone has done any research on this topic of cruise control donor cars and which ones are the best.
There are two kinds: vacume and all electric types. I think that all electric would be the best.
Anyone know anything about these and how hard it will be to find on and how hard the install is on a 240.
A list of parts would also be great.
Thanks
STEPHEN

Personally, I'd just buy an aftermarket cruise control. Every time I hear of someone fitting a factoru cruise to whatever car, it involves stories of missing parts, wiring mods and lots of hours pulling hair out.
Aftermarket cruise control, two hours and you're done.

I just added a CC to a '92 740. Got all the parts from the junkyard for $15 from a 940. It's a pretty easy job, just get the right parts from the donor car. My 740 is prewired from the factory, so it was a simple plug in job... I wouldn't put an aftermarket CC on a Volvo...

If it affects anything it is due to gross negligence on teh installer's behalf.
If your car was pre wired, that's a bonus, but many are not.

The guy at the speedo shop wouldn't put an aftermarket CC on my '86 240. I found a used CC for my car on-line and bought it. The instructions that came with itare a bit sketchy. Are there some step-by-step instructions out there somewhere for a brave/foolish DIY shade-tree mechanic kind of guy w/ a "new" 25 year old Volvo?
