Default Customize - 940 Wheels / Rims =) questions

Hey guys,

I have a 93 940 and I want to put some nice looking rims on her, i was thinking 17" or something along those lines. Volvo rims would be cool too, do rims off a s40 or s60 fit the 940s, i heard they have the same bolt pattern, or is that the 850s? I love the look of the 940, i know it might seem pointless to put some rims on a old volvo but i thought it would add some appeal. thoughts? Also does anyone know of any good intake kits? How did you7 guys go about paining the grille black, i like that look.

thanks!

Most of the volvos have the same bolt pattern, except for the the ones with 4 lug nuts.
The FWD rims have an offset of ~43mm, so you will need to get 20+mm spacers (click here)
No one makes an intake kit for these cars, well very few make them.
It will be easier and cheaper to make you own. (Click hereto seemine)
You get a can of spray paint (forgot which kind), remove the grill, clean it/prep it, paint it, then put it back.

good luck finding aftermarketrims for it lol.. they are VERY hard to find, although TSW used to make them specifically for the 940, soid check ebay. as for the size, i believe its 5 x 108 with a 23? mm offset. you may want to think aboutputting on16s because of the location of the brake pads, and the size of the wheel cutout

the only reason i know all this is because i went through the same thing about a year ago with my 95 940

There are several sources for remanufactured wheels for Volvos. I'm also in the market for upgrading my existing 15 inch OEM wheels on my 1989 Volvo 740 GL Wagon to 16 inch alloy wheels and during reseach on various Websites found that the following Models/Years all use the same 16 inch alloy wheel: 740 1989-1990; 940 1991-1994; 960 1992-1994. The wheel Off-Set for these vehicles requires 20-25MM and most other Volvos use a 35-40MM Off-set which will not have a proper fitment on these model/years. For example, Voxx makes an alloy wheel Voxx MG 16x7 5-108 20SML which has a 20MM Off-set that will fit properly with these vehicles. The wheel is $120 at www.discounttiredirect.com and they offer free shipping. I haven't decided yet whether to buy a set of these wheels or find remanufactured OEM 16 inch alloy which are more expensive.

I put the 15" Voxx MGs on mine about a year ago, to replace the original 14" steelies. Just about any RWD Volvo wheels will fit. 5x108, 20mm.

You may run into problems with anything larger than 16".

By the way, www.tirerack.com is a good source for finding the correct size wheels and tires that will have the proper fitment on your vehicle. Only problem, for much older vehicles like my 1989 Volvo 740 which requires wheels with an off-set of 20-25MM, you can't find any information........I emailed their customer service office and they indicated that they no longer carry wheels for Volvos with that size off-set (740s 1989-1990; 940s 1991-1994; 960s 1992-1994). There's much more flexibility on wheel availability for vehicles with off-sets in the normal 35-40 range.

Check out this Volvo Wheels Bulletin from Year 2000 I found online doing a Google Search for Volvo wheels.......it has photos and part nos. for all the Volvo OEM wheels that were made for older and newer model Volvos.......good reference for anyone looking for used Volvo wheels they might want to buy and what ones Volvo made: http://ostroff.org/volvo/alloy_wheels.pdf I just ordered a set of four of the Volvo OEM 16 inch Hydra alloys from an online wheel dealer.....they're re-manufactured ones for $131 each.........my Volvo dealer priced new ones for me at about $300 each. I also ordered the Volvo wheel caps for these wheels from Swedishautoparts.com for a good price of $16.26 each compared to most places asking $21 - $24 each.
