Cuts out
I have an '89 Volvo 240 AT, sometimes won't start right away...wait few minutes usually starts but not always. Has also cut out while driving for no apparent reason. Installed new battery few months ago. I'd think it was starter except for cutting out on road. Been to two mechanics who both say cannot fix because they cannot duplicate the problem it is so random. But scarey when she just quits going down the road. Help...My Mom drives this car and I'm worried.

Cuts out
Not sure if I can add too much more, but checking the fuel pump relay is a good start. Did you notice if this happens when you make a turn or not? My car did this. It turned out to be a cracked intake air hose (the one between the air mass meter and throttle body). It had cracked where the hose for the idle air motor connected. When I made a sharp enough turn, it would open up and dthe motor would die. Another cause could be the fuel pump starting to go bad or a broken vacuum line, especially the small one that goes from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold. Ipd gives a quick test of the fuel pump if you have a multimeter. I'm not sure if its on their site(www.ipdusa.com), but I did get their newsletter. If you think this would help you, let me know. </P>
