Different types of blower motors for 740s
Hello all, I have a brand new to me 91 740. I went to check out the blower motor because it would not turn on at all just to find that it had been removed.... So I'm guessing that I need a "2 wire" motor? Is there a way to use one of the older style 1 wire motors in this car? It seems like those are substantially cheaper and can be found locally.... Many thanks for any help.

you probably can pull the motor out of most any 1991-1995 940 (EXCEPT 940SE, they are really 960s, and have totally different climate control) and it will drop right in. find a JY car. I'm pretty sure the older style motors won't fit the later style airboxes.
if you're gonna pull a motor out of a junkyard car, I'd suggest bringing a small 12V battery with you (I use a motorcycle battery for this sort of thing), and hook the motor up to it, ensure it spins smoothly and quietly and doesn't make funky noises.
while you're in there' grab the resistor pack that's on the outside side of the blower housing. these tend to fry with age, and when they do, your variable speeds won't work.
and thank whatever diety you worship that you have a 7/9 and not a 240... 240 fans are a bear to replace.
