What car is this? Do they barely work when they do? May be poor power supply coupled with dirty window switches. How old is the battery?

ok, checked switches last night, supprizingly clean. however there is no +voltage at switches on yellow/red wire until approx 5mins, then it just appears. is there a relay that mite have a high resistance open in it by chance or the computer doing something weird??

What is the condition of the fuses? Try spinning them when the windows don't work. They may be corroded.

Never fails to be just an electrical issue on a 240, glad you found it and didn't go blindly replacing window motors and alternators...
