Default electrical woes

My 91 245 has had issues with the passenger side brake light for a while now.
I ordered a new wiring loom for the rear hatch. I installed it last weekend, discovering where the previous owner had done some 'repairs'. low and behold the passenger side brake light still does not work. after examining the assembly it seems some of the plastic has melted due to heat right where the plug goes into the assembly.

I guess i hooked something up wrong because now when i turn on my lights my rear window defrost light comes on.

So my questions are. What did i cross wire to get the rear defroster to turn on with my lights?

Is the melted plastic causing a bad connection for my brake light?
The running lights work fine. it is only the brake light that is not working.

My bulb sensor warning light was not working previously but now is after i cleaned up the assembly with some fine grit sand paper.

Any suggestions are always appreciated.

The melted plastic is causing a bad connection. Very typical for the tail light assembly to melt because of the brake light socket. You will need to replaced the entire tail light assembly(you can find one in the junkyard, preferably an oe one). You can buy a aftermarket tail light assembly but it will eventually melt again. I had the same problem before and when I swapped the tail light out and with a new brake light socket, it worked great. On the wiring issue, you will need to trace back what you did and see where you made a mistake.
