Question Engine Not Igniting, New Battery

Hello! Looking for some help! I'm finding myself with more time available than I usually have this winter, and I'm looking to start doing some of my own car repairs. I'm not super knowledgable about cars in general, so apologies if I don't sound like I know what I'm talking about.

Went to hop into my Volvo 240 wagon this morning, and he wouldn't start! The seemed to be turning over just fine, but it wouldn't ignite. I could crank it for a good ten seconds and it still wouldn't start.

I've been keeping it in the garage, so I don't think it's gotten cold.

I recently replaced the battery. The old battery died while on a road trip last week. After it died, I heard an odd ticking sound which I think might have been coming from my fuel pump (the sound was definitely in the back).

My guess is that there is a problem with fuel reaching the engine. Am I on the right track?

Thanks!

takes fuel, compression, and spark to make the engine go around.

I'd verify you have spark, then shoot some starter fluid in the intake and crank, if it coughs a few times and stalls, then yes, its a fuel delivery problem.

what year 240, they used several different fuel injection systems over the 20 years they made these, and many trouble shooting suggestions are system-specific.
