engine shudders when i put in gear
hi all
this is my first post, hope i can get some advice.
i have a 86 740 gle, with a minor oil leak as well as minor transmission leak. she has run fine, as long as i stay on top of fluids and oil changes.
however, my band just went on a national tour, and the car sat for 2 months with no action. i returned home and she cranked right up...but bout a half mile down the road, big big shudders, similar to when i dropped a transmission a couple of years ago from an even bigger transmission leak.
i brought her back home, added a quart of oil and a quart of transmission fluid. everything seems fine when she's just idling, but when i put her in reverse, the whole engine shudders.
i don't have any more fluids at the house, but dipsticks read fine...maybe another quart of oil wouldn't hurt.
i live up in the mountains...i'm wondering, should i try to limp her to a shop, or not risk anything until i can get a mechanic up here.
anythign else i can do? i don't want to get stuck in the mountains.
thanks for any help in advance
