Default Engine Swap Vovo 240

The engine of my1988 240 was damage when a connecting rod came loose and broke the block. Would there be any problems switching to a 1983 240 engine? What would be the latest year in the 240 series I could install without any major changes to my electrical system (Computers etc.)

Thanks

You don't want the hassle of swapping in an 83 motor. If it's n/a, it is a B23, turbo, a B21. Your motor is a B230F w/ LH2.2 fuel injection. 2.2 was used from 86 to 88. So, those years are a straight swap. Beginning in 89 LH2.4 was used. The only real difference is the crank sensor. LH2.2 used a Hall sensor on the distributor rather than a crank sensor. You could easily swap in a newer motor. Just be certain to use your old distributor, iac, amm and tps.
