I have a 1984 240 Sedan and I have developed a ticking sound that starts when the air conditioning compressor kicks on. Any thoughts on what might cause that?

 

a/c clutch?

 

Yes, or the A/C belt too. When the A/C is not engaged, the belt is not driving anything, when clutch kicks in, belt is loaded up and any nicks etc in belt can make noise.
I am in the middle of replacing an A/C belt (along with all other belts etc) that would go creak creak creak when the A/C was on, not a loud sound, but an old belt trying to delaminate somewhere.
