Default Engine troubles

Did some reading, and still not sure whats up. THe Tow truck driver said its the alternator or the battery.

but here is the story,
on the freeway, my wife and i were driving, we got to our destination at 75mph, then on the return, we were going at 60, and then hit traffic, while idling through traffic, we were fine, then when the traffic began to let up, we started having problems, the engine sputtered and the rpm would jump all over the place with no power, but it woould be fine up to 1500 rpm, after that it would jump and sputter.

so I got the tow home.

Now at home, I tried again, and the motor fires breifly, but just dies.

What are your ideas? Need some help. If I can do this tomoorow, that would be great, but it goes to the mechanic monday.

allright gentleman, got a moment to pull the codes after a battery reset. it gave me a 1-2-1 code. I disconnected the preheater hose and cleaned the MAF. The engine starts up now and stays running. I will take it out, run it, and give an update later today.

any ideas as to why this helped or what may be going wrong with the MAF

No more problems as of now. Just a dirty Sensor.

MAF sensors get dirty, it';s the nature of how they work. Any blowby can find it's way into them and if the wire self cleaning circuit is faulty can accumulate.
Hopefully you've sorted it out!

Regards, Andrew.
