European headlight swap
I own a 1990 240 polar with the giant rectangle headlights. I was wondering if someone has done a headlight swap with older gen headlight or with aftermarket headlights or knows a place with good information about this.
if your USA/DOT big 'tv panel' headlights are hazy and yellowed, best thing youi can do is get the Depo brand ECE replacements, they are a direct fit, and will work way better.
Depot are Chinese and don't last very long. Better treat the OEM ones you have and they will stay clear for a couple of years like the new Depots. I wet sand them with 1200 sand paper, then shoot them with some clear, the kind they paint stores use, the result is not bad, and the cost is minimal.
the OE ones fade much faster than the Depo's as Depo used a /better/ plastic that doesn't yellow in UV light. I believe the OE volvo lamps were polycarbonate.
I've had very poor results from trying to polish OE headlights on various cars, they look good for 6 months, but if that car is in the sun all day every day, within a year they are nearly as bad as they were when you started. I've used Depo lights on my 240, my 740T wagon, my wife's old Camry, and several Mercedes W124 E classes, with great results on all of them.
