Default Everything has a time limit, fuel tanks especially

I guess forty years IS stretching it.... correcting fuel issues and, due to the amount of rust residue visible through the sending unit hole, I decided to pull the tank. WOOF. Dozens, literally, of holes around the filler neck area and I estimate about two pounds of crap in the bottom of the tank. Thankfully replacements are available and aren't unreasonable. Side note: since I was under the car for so long, I got a good look at the floors and, happily, no rust. Typical tire well rust, and right at the seam of the rear panel and trunk floor, some rust, but nothing especially heinous. The fuel tank issue might have been lessened if the previous owner had kept it in operation, but the perforations are due to condensation collecting on the inside top of the tank. Over time that's going to affect any steel tank.

Guess was waiting for me when I got home? The new tank, very pretty, didn't even take a picture of it, just installed it. Ordered it SATURDAY. Say what you want about a certain discount online parts store..... That's service.
