Ok, i own a 91 740 turbo 4 door....was thiking about installing a down pipe to replace the cat to get a little extra power. Any thoughts?

 

Do you mean by installing a down pipe (header pipe) and have the CAT taken out? Yes, it will give much HP and high emissions to our enviroment and its ILLEGAL to have no CAT on a street car.

 

Yes, that is what i mean. And i know about the illegal things but will it add extra noise?

 

It will be a super loud noise, unless u add a resenator (a muffler).. but its up to u if u wanna have no CAT, but when it comes to a SMOG ASM test. You will fail instantly and might be sent to the state referree for correction. UNless u have connections for smog test stations, but then ur 4 smog gases will be higher than normal. because the CAT oxidies the gases. GOod lUCK.. but ill be fun driving with out a CAT and a bit more power.

 

I know this guy *wink wink, nudge nudge* that's installed what's called a "test pipe". It's basically a length of pipe with bolt plates on both ends you put on in place of the cat. He leaves it on and gets all the groovy benefits of having no cat, then come test time he swaps it back out. After passing the emissions test with flying colors, he puts that sucker right back on. But yeah, it's really bad for the environment and the ozone and the trees and the whales, blah blah blah...

Yeah, but a GOOD loud. You know, I think it's really silly that there are the 4 banger Hondas out on the road with the obnoxious "jazz trumpet" sounding mufflers, and the motorcycles that ride by my house that are SOOO loud that they shake the pictures off my walls. I mean really, 2 in the morning and I'm ripped from sleep by "BRRRAAAAAAAP LUB LUB BRAAAAAAP". Even if a cop DID stop you, you go ahead and let Johnny Law get on his hands and knees to check if you've got a cat or not! Hell, to me that's worth the fine! There's a Volvo related subject in here somewhere, I swear.

Yeah true I see those old civics with on a can muffler! I asked them sometimes, so how many horses you get more? they are like UH.. Uhh.. UH!!!
