Exhaust pipe/catalytic connection
My granddaughter's 940 sedan just suffered a rust (studs gone) disconnect between the catalytic converter and exhaust pipe. I'm ready to reconnect them BUT it looks as if maybe a donut "gasket" is supposed to go between the two pipes? Nothing is there because they separated.
Thanks,
Bob

which year 940, is it a turbo or 16v or plain b230f, and does it have EGR or not? I dunno how many different gaskets there are but knowing all those bits will help find the right part number in the catalogs.
is this the gasket right at the catalytic converter, or is it the one where the riser pipe joins the exhaust header (or turbo)?

are you in california? if so, it probably has EGR, otherwise it probably doesn't. the EGR has a vacuum control valve on the left suspension tower, and the actual EGR valve and vacuum actuator are under the intake manifold, the EGR pipe reaches around the back side of the engine block to the exhaust manifold on the other side of the car. the EGR controller looks like a little plastic hat. there's a electrical connector on the bottom, and two vacuum lines on the side, one goes to a vacuum port on the intake manifold, and the other goes to the EGR actuator beneath the manifold
anyways... lets seee.... a 1993 B230F non EGR lists part number 1266118. Volvo Exhaust Pipe Flange Gasket- CRP 256-941 | FCP Euro
ah, this is the turbo and/or egr part.
Volvo Saab BMW Exhaust Pipe Flange Gasket - 256-737 | FCP Euro

There's no connections to the exhaust manifold except the exhaust pipe and an aluminum warm air hose going to the air intake. It's a NY car so I'm guessing that means no EGR, but as I look at the pictures for the gasket it looks as if it would work. Both the exhaust pipe and cat have a flared end that expand outward so they are not bent to match each other. I think that means they need something like the gasket that has a matching flare on each side. BUT all the parts list say the non-EGR doesn't need the gasket. I think I'll just get one and decide from there.
