What all do I need to do to swap my 81 headlighs the 4 squares to the late 80s BIG block headlights, and can I mount the sleak sedan bumpers instead of the big beast bumpers that cam stock on my 81 240 wagon?

I am new to volvo and to here my names Eric
My friend got me into volvo and knows EVERYTHING haha, but of coarse after I get mine he leaves to backpack europe with his brother

Thanks, Eric

Hi Eric, to do the swap you need to swap the fenders and hood. If you go that route, be sure to budget $300 for the glass e-codes as the stock plastic lensed units are pathetic.
To swap from your commando bumpers to the later style is pretty much a bolt up thing. You'll need the trim as well. The thinnest bumpers are foundon the 84 models.

Thank you!
Are wagon fronts and sedan fronts different? Or if I found a sedan parts car with a good front end before I found a wagon would the sedan stuff bolt up?

Eric

From 1986 on, all US market 240's have the same front end regardless of model. As for bumpers, the black plastic bumpers came out I believe, in 84 and are close to the car. Later bumpers stick out further (my 89 for example). The filler strips between the bumper and body are different for sedans and wagons...on the rear only.

Oh nice they kept it simple=),
I have problew now blah I think speedo cables hate me, so I took my cluster out on my first break and installed a factory Tach, I have to undo a few things and twist off the little thing hooked into the speedo, does the speedo itself have to be twisted or anything or does it just plug in, I pulled the cluster out and the speedo cable unpluged, I got everything pluged back in but didn't have time to mess with the speedo cable, did I break it by having it just pull out? I'm lost and won't be able to mess with it untill lunch=(

Man, I like the 4 squares a lot better than the Big Singles. They are a lot cheaper to repair/replace. Also, I like the big metal 5 mph bumper better than the newer 2.5 mph bumper. Less chance of body damage in parking incidents.

Remember, you have a 30 year old car. You're not going to full anyone into thinking your car is cool and newer. If you want it to look real nice, go with a nice fresh paint job, lower it, and get some cool wheels (not low profile, they suck).

The speedo cable has an anti-tamper plastic collar on it where it enters the cluster. Thgey can be defeated if you are careful when removing; often they get an ear broken and will still go on and catch...just may fall out occasionally.

I got it all hooked back up and working, I bolted the cluster back in then plugged it in from underneath,

I'm not trying to fool anyone just like the look of the other bumpers and lights more, the only reason I wouldn't want to change now is my paint is basically mint, and I have 17inch pegasus wheels with 25mm front spacers just waiting on my 30mm rears, I don't want to do anything crazy to it just make it look even nicer then it does now, ill get some pics up tonight of how it sits right now
