Default Finally got an alternator to work

Finally got an alternator to work and not sure why. After trying four new remanufactured alternators and not getting a charge - with new battery, starter, and fresh wiring from battery and starter and relay on the firewall (D+ wire) - I got a used Volvo alternator and it worked. But I also at that point put in a new alternator drive belt. My old belt was stretched and also glazed and when at high speed didn't squeal and appeared to spin the alternator fast. But I am baffled; was it simply the new, tighter belt, or could it have been something in the fact that it was an alternator that came out of a Volvo?
