Fix a fuel tank leak?
My 86 240 wagon had a gas tank leak on the drivers side. The hole was concealed under a small buildup of road grit located in the upper half of the tank near the rear. I opted to swap it out with one from a wrecker, and about 9 months later I smell gas again. The smell is strongest when driving with the windows open. I suspect the used tank is leaking and not at a seam.
I have heard of a product that is sloshed around in the tank (after removing the in tank pump) and it seals leaks. Preferably I would like to apply a fuel proof epoxy to the exterior. Has anyone had any experience with this sort repair attempt? I would appreciate your input.

Yes, I had a 64 Amazon with a fuel tank leak. Nothing worked. You can't weld it (Yikes!!!).
I got a salvage fuel tank and swapped it.
A new one would be serious bucks.
Pretty much, those are your only options.

Thank you Longship. My instincts have been telling me to just swap the tank again. Just in case though, I am going to research this idea of adding a coating to the interior of a leaking tank for interests sake. I am told a company in Eastern Canada provides such this service. Cheers.
You can usually get a new one off e-bay for around $130. I would just geta new one and be done with it. By the time you try to fix yours, not knowing what kind of gunk is inside of it, I think you would be better off just replacing it for the amount of money it costs for a new one.
