Default flywheel question

Does a 92 240 have signal pins on the flywheel or only dowel pins for the pressure plate? Bentley manual shows signal pins but I think this changed with the introduction of the cps?

There are no signal pins on Volvos built before 1990. This includes CIS KJet, LH 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.4 LH Jetronic. I honestly don't know about LH3.1 that started showing up in 90 or 91. Before LH2.4 was introduced in 89 for n/a cars and 90 for turbos, the ecu got its signal from the Hall sensor on the distributor. Beginning with LH 2.4, the cps was introduced but pins were not on the face of the flywheel or flexplate. The perimeter of the fp/fw had dimples for the flywheel and a ring w/ holes for the flexplate. Your flywheel should be the dog dish recessed variety and will have 58 dimples on the outside and a blank spot equal to two dimples. It is imperative that you mark the location of the flywheel if it is removed or the car will not start. I'm pretty sure LH3.1 has the same setup.

Thanks, I did mark the fw and put it back on the same way. I just got concerned because my manual says I should have signal pins and I don't so I got to thinking that maybe the machine shop removed them when resurfacing and forgot to put them back on. Sounds like I should be all set with just my 3 pressure plate dowels.

there is an arrow on the flywheel on the 240's 89-93. I know the Bentley manual is F..ked! I did not mark my flywheel and I followed the Bentley instructions put tranny back in etc. Car was way advanced timing. Anyway, I found out later that you have to point the Arrow at the starter not directly beneath the crank angle sensor etc..if you point the arrow towards the starter your good. Very smart that you marked it. I was so used to doing tranny's/ rear main seals on the pre 89 that I DO NOT NEED TO MARK IT I can do it on my sleep. This one REALLY through me for a loop. Luckily I have friends that own Volvo shops...
