Default flywheel question...

I just had a new starter put in my 850 Turbo, when I went to pick the car up my mechanic told me that I had a "small amount of gear damage on the flywheel". Could someone tell me what that means, and if I need to worry about it. Thanks for any help.

More then likely, the old starter wore down the teeth on the outside of the fly wheel. As long as it is not really bad, it should be fine. If it is bad, you will have a hard time starting the car.

When you start the car do you ever hear a grinding noise and the motor does not turn over? If so, thats what he is talking about. When it gets bad the starte will not engage the teeth on the flywheel. It is common to have some wear there. He was either trying to make a buck or being a over protective, cover your butt mechanic.
