Default Fuel Millage?

I have an '82 244 GL. I recently began to get very poor fuel millage. My first thought was to replace the air filter which i did. That made it a little better but it still is relatively poor. I thought that there might be a leak in the fuel line somewhere because i just cant seem to keep gas in the car. I checked for leaks and there doesn't appear to be any. My next move is going to be to replace the fuel filter. Does anyone have any ideas what else to do or how to check for leaks in the fuel system more thoroughly? Any ideas would be great.

If your car has CIS-K-Jetronic Fuel Injection it could be a bad fuel pump check valve on the fuel pump .or a bad cold start injector that leaks . u have any other issues such as O/D on trans? not engaging?

Nope OD works great. I do have the CIS-K-Jetronic fuel injection. I'll look at the fuel pump. How would i test that to see if its the problem? I'll check the cold start injector too. Thanks for the tips.
