wire colors change year to year and model to model. that diagram was for middle vintage 240's.

you can't run the car with just a jumper from 30 to 87/2 as that won't power the ECU, you would need a 'Y' jumper that connects 30 to BOTH 87/2 AND 87/1 and of course, this jumper has to be removed when you stop the car or the pump keeps running AND the battery will run down.

when the ignition is turned on, the ECU grounds 86/1 which fires the 87/1 relay contact, which powers the rest of the ECU. when the ECU detects the engine is turning over via pulses from the hall sensor, then the ECU grounds 86/2, which fires the 87/2 output, which powers the fuel pumps and injectors. actually, the injectors could be wired to either 87/2 or 87/1, some years are one way, some years another.

That is great information. I just want to see if the ecu is or is not working. will the ecu affect weather the injectors have power with the key on? by looking at the wireing diagram for a 86 and newer it looks like the positive side of the injectors are powered from the fuel pump relay pin 5 green wire through the air control valve. no power at 87 2(not sure how to count the pins but I think it is 5) with the key on. I will test with a jumper today 30 to 872 just like the fuel pump test. I really appreciate all of your help I am new to volvos as well as fuel injection. I am learning a lot.

Well I got the ecu from ebay yesterday put it in today and poof it started right up. The car runs smooth shifts good solid as a brick Score! thanks for all the help I guess if I wasn't so cheap I would have had to do less wire chasing.
