Default Fuel Sending Unit

Mechanic says the fuel pump in my 940 non-turbo needs to be replaced along with the sending unit. Can we get by without replacing the sending unit which is over 400bux from the dealer?

Sure you can. If your mechanic isn't comfortable doing it, find another mechanic...seriously. The sedan has the access panel in the trunk while wagon's have it in the cargo area. The entire assembly comes out, swap pumps and back it goes. Chilton's give a labor estimate of 1.7 hours. The shop should quote you 2 hours to cover themselves. Perfectly acceptable as labor guides always presume everything goes smoothly and it never does. The tank does not need to be drained as the access is done with the tank on the car. Again, if the mechanic has other plans...consider going elsewhere.
