Default How to replace fuel level sending unit(s) in 1999 xc 70

Greetings all!

The fuel level guage in our 1999 XC70 (build 11/98, 149K miles) is sometimes not moving from "Empty." Sometimes while driving it will move suddenly and begin to reflect that there is gas in the car, but not completely full or accurate.

I opened the two "holes" in the floor beneath the panels in the boot/luggage compartment, and there is no access to the fuel level sender(s), at least not from what I could see. It didn't look anything like the photographs in the Haynes manual.

How easy is it to access the fuel level sender or senders in this vehicle? Does it require dropping the fuel tank?

Also, what is the approximate cost of a new fuel level sender for a 1999 XC70?

Thanks!

You have to drop the fuel tank and some of the rear suspension. Or you can do what others have done. They have cut a hole in the floor board and replaced it that way.
