Fuse box fire
This is a good story for all the volvo buffs out there I drive a 1987 740 and monday while driving i had the heat on well the fan anyway. when all of a sudden smoke started billowing from the ashtray being that i dont smoke and my car smelled like plastic i knew something was up when i accessed the fusebox fuse 16 the air cond/ heater fan fuse and the slot it was in were melted. Heres the kicker the fuse DID NOT POP after the box cooled down all that was between the 2 connections was the metal from the fuse and the fan still worked[:-]??????? it was the correct fuse what the funk happened??? anyone have any ideas?

Never did this on a Volvo, but it might be prudent to remove the fusebox and have a good look at the wiring. Bet you find more evidence of things getting hot. High current-drawing devices such as fans and fuel pumps can easily melt the plastic.
Many mid-80s Volvos had less-than-perfgect wiring harnesses, so check it out.

i thought it was isolated at first but when i went to the boneyard for a slightly less than new fusebox the first three cars i looked in had the same fuse melted the same way goddamn foreign wiring[:@] and 1 hour later after sorting through that mess of wiring hopefully i fixed it it dosent seem to be getting hot anymore
