Board is not ruined. Is teh edge that is short a nice, straight edge? If so, just buy some more material and CAREFULLY butt up to the old material.
A couple of points here, make sure the material runs in the same direction, shine a strong light on it, or use your hand to feel the lay of the cloth, with some practice you'll feel it.
Use a good amount of glue on both sides of the join to glue material to board, but don't get any glue on the join itself, and don't press the join down hard. Let it lay a little loose, make sure it's all good then brush it down with the palm of your hand.

Regards, Andrew.
