Default Hello, I am Jane from Durham, England

Hello, I am Jane from Durham, in the North East of England. Hope you don't mind me joining in. I have a 1996 Volvo Estate 940 LPT. I have had it for 8 Months now, I have a problem with the oil light flashing intermittently when I brake from higher revs. No unusual engine noise, 150.000 miles on the clock. Overall well looked after. I have tried the obvious oil and oil filter change. I would be grateful for any advice Please. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, we havea great moderator from Durham as well.

It was too bad that the forum at Volvo Owner's Club U.K was shut down.

As to the problem on your Volvo, hop over to the 940 forum; I believe there are some experts there.

Best of luck & cheers,

JPN

Hello, Yes it is a shame about the Volvo Owners Club Forum closing down. Thanks, I will try the 940 Forum. I was reading through this forum and I found a couple of similar problems suggesting it could be water on the oil pressure switch, fingers crossed that's all thst is wrong. Thank for your help. Jane

Hello, I asked for help in June, I have a 1996 Volvo 940 LPT. The oil light on the dash was flicking on when I was slowing down. A month before this started I put the car into a garage for an oil and filter change.( Requesting a Genuine Volvo oil filter.) I checked the dip stick and the oil level appeared to be low, strange since I had recently had the oil changed at the garage, the car has never been smokey or burned oil, and has no oil leaks. I have filled the oil up, and over the last month the oil level has hardly moved. I can only assume the garage must have drained the oil out, but not filled the car up with enough oil. Needless to say I will not be using that garage anymore. Thank you for all your help and advice at the Volvo Forum. I will certainly use the forum again. Regards, Jane

but not filled the car up with enough oil
A common problem in some establishments. Usually the apprentice gets blamed for not putting enough in.

One of the first things I do when someone else has changed my oil is to pull the dipstick to see if they have put enough in. Doing this in front of the garage lets them know you won't be taken for a ride.

If you live in the Durham City area I can give you the name of a vey good independent mechanic who does all the jobs properly.
