Hello everyone, my amazing girlfriend left her 1987 Volvo 240 with me while she’s on a trip to Asia, while I was doing yo small work on it I noticed the bulb on warning on the dash on. I walked around the car and realized the driver side rear tail lights are not coming on. The passengers side come in fun, breaks like are all good too. I was getting good voltage at the #15 fuse but at the light assembly I’m only getting 7 Volts. Any idea what’s going on? The left license plate illumination light is also not working as well, the right is fine.

 

It's possible that if you open up the little shield for the taillights you'll see a clip that clips onto a part of the circuit board. The clip should have a bunch of "pins." The pins for the specific light(s) you're seeing out may not be connecting to the circuit board and may be burnt or something by water damage like mine were, or possibly due to being knocked around from the inside due to cargo.

Pull the clip with wires on it and see if the pins are all pulled out to connect with the circuit board receiver. If not, get a straight edge or small knife and pull them out a bit. That worked for me. Mine still go in an out sometimes but I carry a lot of stuff in the trunk that hits up against the shield.
