Default Help with id. a part? for repair. 1995 940

Hello!

I'm an older Volvo-loving-driving girl and I've recently moved to MN (rochester area) where I have no Volvo knowledge connections and cannot find anyone who can tell me what this part is!

The oil change guy noticed it and called it an RGsomething valve hose...but I can't find anything that looks like it online or where to order it!

Please help

Car info: 1995 940 sedan (not the turnbo) 252k

EGR Valve hose. Although you'd have more 'splaining to do in front of a parts guy. You can get it new from Volvo, (if available without buying a bunch of other pricey stuff) or from a junkyard where it'd cost probably nothing... Better carry that picture with you or you are likely to get all kinds of crazy hoses.

NO! thats not EGR, thats the PULSE-AIR system. completely opposite of EGR. EGR takes some exhaust gas and sucks it nito the intake side. Pulse-Air takes some fresh air aind inserts it into the exhaust side.

this is af eature of the B230FD engine which I just happen to see in the sticker on your valve cover is exactly what you have. that hose is Volvo PN 1266666 ... $45 at a stealer, or $35 at Tascaparts.... 1995 Volvo 940 Parts - TascaParts.com

those Wxxxx partnumbers are 'worldparts' and you could get Volvo or you could get generic clone, you don't know. the Volvo rubber parts tend to be much higher quality rubber.

oh, and the fact that its THAT fried looking tells me the non-return valve below it, PN 3507332, is bad and its letting exhaust gas blow back up into the hose, which melted it.

ouch. $117 at Tasca, 1995 Volvo 940 Parts - TascaParts.com

I'd replace both of them, because thats the sort of guy I am. if one failed, the other one probably isn't far behind.

Oh Geez! Thank you!

So, does my car have an EGR hose? Is that something I need to replace as well or just the 2 parts you mentioned, the air pulse hose and the valve?

It's been taped as long as I've had the car - almost 10 years. I didn't notice it fully came off until I went to get the oil changed and they told me. They also thought it might be EGR related, but were at a loss for where or what exactly.

well, start the engine, open the hood, and see if exhaust gasses are blowing up out of that funnel looking thing pointing up that the fried hose was attached to... careful, it might get hot as its on the exhaust side, but I'd put my finger over it to see if its blowing out. it might suck in pulses, thats OK, but blowout out is bad.
