Default Help lowering my 1989 volvo 240

Where's a good site/store to buy springs? Also, I can't find any shops that have 15" wheels for my car either. I'm a noob with cars, so please help me out.

Go to Volvo Parts, Accessories and Performance Specialist Since 1963 for the springs and some sway bars while you are at it. I have not purchased them, but I sure would trust the quality and hear nothing but good about them. As for the 15"s, checkout a junkyard. They could have a set. Why 15 inch may I ask? I think that would cramp the wheel well.

IPD is a good site for sure. One of our forum sponsors, fcpgroton.com sells lowering springs as well. So does Skandix-USA. Upgrading to 15" wheels is a great idea; 14" quality tires are difficult to source these days. Remember, it is not the size of the wheel that "crowds the wheel well". It is the size of the tire mounted on the wheel. It's important to select a tire size whose diameter is close to the stock tires so that the speedometer and handling are not adversley affected. Here's a link to a handy tire size calculator...Tire size calculator
Volvo made several o.e. rims in 15"...the Virgo, Draco and Sirius wheels are fairly inexpensive. The least expensive, new aftermarket wheels I've seen that I like were on ebay recently...15" VOLVO 240 WHEELS SILVER 15" VOLVO REPLICA WHEELS(4) | eBay

Only reason why I say they might looked cramped is because I have seen 240's with rims larger than 14" and did not care for them(I really don't like big rims). But of course you could get a low profile tire which might offset the look and not really compliment the car and yada, yada, yada, this is not my decision. Back to the question, are you looking for original rims or just whatever they have that looks good?

Any rim with a bolt pattern of 108x5 will fit, but you need to watch the offset and backspacing on the wider rims. stock offset is around 20

I never 100% liked these till I found a set from a friend for cheap and where already painted:

here are the 16x7.5 on mine:

I was thinking either 14's or 15's. I don't care really, as long as their not hubcaps. Preferably I would like to have original Volvo rims but whatever is cheapest. Thanks for the links guys! Your helping alot.

This link Newbie Factory Wheel Guide...OMG its huge SORRY! nf56k!!!!!! - Turbobricks Forums is posted in another thread right now about the turbo rims... Really nice to see all the originals together in one. I personally have a set of 14" Scorpius rims and love them (Checkout my Volvo below my username). Someone is currently selling a set on eBay Volvo 240 Classic Edition Wheels, RARE, 14" 5x108 | eBay, and they show up often, so they are not really rare as they were available as an option on all 240's from 1991 and on I think. I managed to find a nice set (though missing two caps and all lugs) with good tires on them from Craigslist for $200, so if you can wait, keep looking for a good deal.

note that shorter springs should be stiffer since you have less remaining travel before you bottom out... and stiffer springs should be mated with a stiffer damper (aka shock absorber) as its a tuned system.

So be prepared for a stiffer ride and to buy some heavy duty Bilstein shocks?

that goes with the territory. then after you've spent all that time and effort making your car uncomfortable, prepare to bottom out on driveway ramps and speed bumps. such fun!

I don't have a pic yet, but I used the 15's off my 740 on my lowered 240--looks great, rides greater.
